A few days ago there was a whole hoo-haa about a certain image that got a Daily Deviation, and, from where I stand, nobody really came out of it completely clean. Reserving my opinion of the image to myself, it had to be clear to even the most fervent fans of the photo in question that there was bound to be some people, a lot of people on a site as popular as this one, who, lets’ say, will not be particularly thrilled with it. Now, while it is true that it’s in poor taste to go and post dismissive comments on a picture that got a DD, but on the other hand, what if you’re a dick and have a really strong opinion? Are you honor-bound to keep it to yourself?

If you post a picture on dA, you hope it will get as many views, faves and comments possible. It’s only natural that there’s a lot of opinionated people around who will visit your image and verbally poop on your work, and the more traffic you get, the more trolls you get along with it. A person came to my DD, a picture of a man in the street, and told me how much he would like the image if only the man (who takes up 80% of the photo) wasn’t in it. Sure, he might be a kind of a dick, but posting a comment of his sincere opinion is well within his rights.

It’s not like you don’t have options: respond and explain your intent, ignore, or disable comments altogether.

But what happened after the original trolling on the DD that will remain anonymous, is the cusp of poor tact. The deviant in question, instead of defending his image, or graciously ignoring the trolls whilst basking in his DD light, decided to post links to the naysayers’ galleries in his artist’s comments with the goal of mocking their lame art. And that, my friends, is the lamest of all lame moves.

Objectophilia is probably the only perversion not getting it’s fair shake here on dA. Images of humanless objects, even by popular dA artists, usually get very few faves and views, save a very select few, which is a darn shame, since there’s a lot of amazing inanimate object photography around which kicks serious ass.
