Artist's Comments

The urban legend concerns a couple traveling by carriage that got caught in a storm. They saw a nearby church, and decided to ask for shelter. A kindly old priest opened the door, welcomed them in, offered them food and shelter during the storm. After they dined, they retreated to their room. In the middle of the night, the church bell started tolling. The couple decide to see what's happening, go to the bell tower, only to discover that there's nobody there, that the bell is, in fact, tolling all by itself. Petrified, the couple decide to chance the storm raging outside. Having escaped the church and reached the nearby village, the locals promptly explain to them that the church has been ravaged by the Turk invasion many years ago, and that the priests called for help by tolling the bell at precisely the same time as it tolled the night they spent in the church, to no avail.

The legend is a local (Serbian) one.

I've seen many church-silhouettes, but none of them had the bell in it ^^ Great shot!

This was a really old, abandoned church, up on a hill. Real stuff of horrors. :)
